EDMONTON -- Wedding bliss turned to horror at a Chinatown wedding reception Saturday when assailants opened fire on the crowd and attacked with knives, killing one and leaving three clinging to life. The bloody mayhem -- in which one witness said the groom was stabbed in the neck -- left another three victims with non-life-threatening wounds after a brawl broke out inside a third-floor wedding reception attended by hundreds at Edmonton's Mirama Dining and Lounge, 9431 Jasper Ave., just before midnight.
"A wedding party was being held in one of the facility's banquet rooms when a disturbance broke out. Several shots were fired. One person was killed while a half-dozen more were rushed to hospital," said police spokesman Andy Weiler.
Some 350 guests were at the second-floor marriage celebration of Robert Vo and Vivian Vu.
"The scene was spread out over two floors. There were a number of injured people. Four critically injured people were lying next to each other," said EMS operations Supt. Ken Dack.
