Any Western separatists here? I believe LaundryBob was involved with Western Canada For Us. What was that all about?

Well, I'm in the West and I'd support seperation. I'm not politically active or anything, however.
From what I hear secondhand from secondhand about WC4US, the police raided some dude's (the leader, I guess) house and took his stuff and info. That's that.

I don't understand the impetus behind Western separation. It's hardly like Albertans are an oppressed minority.
I mean, yeah, there's redneck jokes, but anyone living in a rural setting will get called a redneck.

We are tired of the Eastern arsehats voting in the Libs constantly and imposing their Federal crap over here.

Canada is only a 'country' in terms of its borders and its diplomatic relationship with the USA. I don't think there's anything sacred about retaining a federal government, for anything other than diplomacy and parliamentary discussion. I support a decentralised and regionally governed dominion, connected (but not taxed) by the crown.

Historically, Canada (i.e., Ontario) has screwed Alberta financially and the Liberals have showed time and again that Alberta is only a cow cash. Trudeau's National Energy Program enraged Albertans, for e.g.
Central Canada's interests have always been favoured by Ottawa and cronyism and patronage have been rampant -- if I lived out West you can bet your shirt that I'd be a separatist.
Why should the West support Quebec's corrupt politicians who dominate the political scene? http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/index.cfm?PgNm=ArchivedFeatures&Params=A25

Braun pretty much hit it on the head.

So the Feds are assholes who bend over for Quebec. That's the problem to go for.
Just about any region that has lots of oil is going to become a cash cow for somebody else, or for a corrupt ruling class.
An independent Alberta would just get held down by the US.

The solution is seperation or threats of seperation in order to negotiate greater autonomy. The West cannot otherwise vote in any Federal reform. The political system is biased Eastwards.
The Easterners and Ottawa Libs do not like Albertans. Many of them even hate Albertans. They whine at the idea of the West leaving because we're their "cash cow". They like our tax dollars but hate us. We are "rednecks and bigots", but raise the idea of leaving and they suddenly get rejection syndrome... just like US and the South, as Fade pointed out.
