The US government is facing a growing problem, it's the waistlines of Americans and the government has issued new dietary guidelines to combat the obesity epidemic.

The new guidelines stress that Americans need to eat less, but consume more whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

The US government's Health and Human Services Department updates its "Dietary Guidelines" every five years.

In 2005, the focus is on more physical activity and food safety.

Some of the key recommendations include, limiting the intake of bad fats, sugars, salt and alcohol.

Eating about 2 1/2 cups of fruits and vegetables a day, without exceeding energy needs is also recommended.

When it comes to grains, people are encouraged to consume at least three ounces or an equivalent of whole grain products per day, with the remaining recommended grains coming from enriched or whole grain products.

You can wash it all down with three cups of low-fat or fat-free milk.

Regular physical activity is recommended to maintain, lose, or prevent gradual weight gain.

The government recommends 30 minutes of exercise a day and 60 minutes for children, to reduce the risk of chronic disease in adulthood

Can someone say, "No shit sherlock"
It took the US GOV this long to figure this out. Why am I not surprised.

I think the American people are not as fat as people say. At least the American people I know are not so fat.

I think the American people are not as fat as people say. At least the American people I know are not so fat.I think its less prevalent in the upper midwest then other parts of the country, poor people in the US ironically tend to be the fattest.

I think its less prevalent in the upper midwest then other parts of the country, poor people in the US ironically tend to be the fattest.Black people tend to be the fattest of all Americans, whether they are rich or poor. This is just another one of the reasons why black culture is messed up in the USA.

Lots of non-recently-arrived Hispanics are also fat come to think of it. Not sure what that's about, but it's probably due hispanic to parents overfeeding their kids because the parents remember what it was like in the old countries when they didn't have as much food

Oh you are not all that familiar with the spicano community then.lol, while you wrote that I was editing my original post to add the same

mexicans are probably not fatter than blacks as a whole though, on account of the recently-arrived hispanics being as thin as speedy gonzalez
