The whole proclaimation:

Be it known from this day forward that Satan, ruler of darkness, giver of evil, destroyer of what is good and just, is not now, nor ever again will be, a part of this town of Inglis. Satan is hereby declared powerless, no longer ruling over, nor influencing, our citizens.

In the past, Satan has caused division, animosity, hate, confusion, ungodly acts on our youth, and discord among our friends and loved ones. NO LONGER!

The body of Jesus Christ, those citizens cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb, hereby join together to bind the forces of evil in the Holy Name of Jesus. We have taken our town back for the Kingdom of God. We are taking everything back that the devil ever stole from us. We will never again be deceived by satanic and demonic forces.

As blood-bought children of God, we exercise our authority over the devil in Jesus' name. By that authority, and through His Blessed Name, we command all satanic and demonic forces to cease their activities and depart the town of Inglis.

As the Mayor of Inglis, duly elected by the citizens of this town, and appointed by God to this position of leadership, I proclaim victory over Satan, freedom for our citizens, and liberty to worship our Creator and Heavenly Father, the God of Israel. I take this action in accordance with the words of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as recorded in Matthew 28:18-20 and Mark 16:15-18.

Signed and sealed this 5th Day of November, 2001

Carolyn Risher, Mayor

Sally McCranie, Town Clerk

Risher said the events of September 11 inspired her to pursue the proclamation, which the Town Commission supports.

She made five copies. One was kept for her office wall, which is covered with pictures of Elvis, framed letters of thanks and a painting of the Last Supper.

The rest were rolled and stuffed into hollowed-out fence posts placed at the four entrances to the town. The posts, painted with the words Repent, Request and Resist, were sealed and capped.

The American Civil Liberties Union says the proclamation clearly violates the separation of church and state.

"This is the most extreme intrusion into religion by a public official that I have ever seen in my 27 years as a director of the ACLU," said Howard Simon, executive director of the ACLU of Florida.

Update:

Apparently somebody stole the four signposts, so:

Rather than give up her quixotic quest to rid her town of Satan, Inglis Mayor Carolyn Risher vows to escalate the conflict. According to ABCNews.Com,

Inglis says she plans to replace the posts with new ones twice the height that will be anchored in concrete. She also plans to put up a giant cross.

Word on the street is... in these real apparently religious hick towns you get laid really easily... with no opposition... new blood in an inbred town is welcome.

Banning muslims is a good idea... banning a mythological abstraction of evil is meaningless.

She said there are people in Inglis who needed to repent.

What wafflehouse fatass have I heard this from before... next she'll be talking about "prison time".

They want me to pay for this video... **** them.

Uh, the video should automatically play without a subscription to your left. Hit preferences.

Banning the moon-worshippers is a good idea, though these small town protestant hicks are what I like to call "Bible Idolators," you know, the kind of people who consult their custom made, gold leafed leatherbounds every time a problem comes up. Sick? Read the Bible. Feeling down? Read the Bible. Lost your keys? Consult the Bible. These Bible Idolators feel their engraved KJV's hold some kind of mystical power on their own.

I cannot understand what you guys are whining about. This is just the kind of forthright attitude ("I discriminate and I'm proud!") that we we need to reclaim Western civilization from PC degenerates.

PetrFor the most part I agree( as I said issuing anti moon worshipper proclamations is good and issuing banning metaphysical abstractions of evil is essentially harmless)... much as I have a distaste for fundamentalist religious zealot of any stripe... at least the Southern Baptist types are on the right side of most things politically.

Now on that note Pete, what do you have against the Mormons?

LOL, we don't need a medieval worldview from white trash with IQs of 80. These people are all Christian Zionists as well, not to mention the fact that aside from a few Klan holdovers, most of them think all races are "children of God." Turn on TBN and you'll see as many blacks as whites.

The problem with the Jesus crowd is that most of them think Muslims are the enemy. Some Muslim extremists are dangerous, of course, but the danger they pose is so minimal as to be scarcely worth mentioning. The Jew, on the other hand, affects everyone. Too few of those ignorant trailer-dwellers understand that the Jew is the real problem.

As for "banning Satan," if Satan existed then he'd certainly be laughing his unholy ass off at those people. He'd probably send a few demons to possess people in that town just to prove a point.
