My goddamn summer Latin class (why the **** am I taking this?) requires me to do a little presentation, and I decided on "After the Roman Empire".
I'm thinking of doing a little on post-Roman Britain, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Byzantine Empire.
Any suggestions?

Your best bet is to do something on the Gothic war between the Ostrogoths and the Byzantines. The source material for post-Roman Britain is notoriously scarce until the 8th century.

I'm basically cribbing from Encarta so far.

I agree with Fade. The Greco-Gothic wars are a good start. What's the time period of the report? From 467 to ... ? You can also do the Lombard invasion of Italy and the relationship with the Papacy and the Byzantines. Also, the Saracen invasion of Sicily and the Italian south against the Byzatines as well as the rise of Islam vs. Byzantine power in the East and the rise of the independent communal states in the northern Italian valleys, which would lead to the rise of the Lombard League against the HRE and Friedrick Barbarossa.

Whatever you do, your best bet is to pick something which involves the Catholic Church, because that will have the most sources.

You could do a project on St. Columban.

You might also look into the Goliards.

You know what, why don't you be practical and do it on the transformation of Latin into Romance since it is a Latin language class rather than a history class; do it on the language itself rather than military events after Rome collapsed. That is my suggestion.

Northumbria, and many other parts of Europe.
