The ritual object from Balkåkra
The four-spoked sun wheel is predominant in the completely unique finds from Balkåkra in Sweden. It is dated to c 1500 BC. A similar object is found in Hasfalva in Hungary. They represent the only finds in the world of this kind. They were made in the same moulds and were probably used ritually in both southern Sweden and Hungary. As no similar finds have been encountered in the area between these two finds (c 1500 km), they demonstrate the great importance of alliances and long-distance contacts in Bronze Age Europe, already 3500 years before the formation of the European Union.
