We were hacked this morning by a muslim who exploited a security flaw in the old vBulletin. He did a lot of damage to the templates and the database. We had to ditch the old board and upgrade to vB3 for security reasons. So this afternoon I installed this new board and hooked it up to a new database. The old one is still there and we have copies of all the old stuff. I have been chatting back and forth with the host this evening about repairing it. This board will be hooked up to this blank database in the meantime. When the host is able to restore the old database, we will simply link the new board up to it. :)

Damn that sucks. Do you have any idea why he attacked The Phora? I really do hope that the old posts can still be read somehow. I already saved some interesting threads such as 'What is Fascism' and the one where Fade listed the equivalent of the entire inventory of a small city library :), but I would like to read more. The Phora is a great forum! Sure, it's not as big as Stormfront but the quality is much higher.

The host has several backups of the old database, that's for sure. I know that. I emailed the host this afternoon and told them to reinstall the backup. They replied back saying they did within the hour. Obviously, nothing seems to have changed. So I emailed them back again. They have yet to respond. In the meantime, I ditched the old vB2 (as I planned on getting rid of it anyway and now is as good a time as any). Apparently, from what I gather, this has happened to several people as of late. There is someone going around exploiting a security weakness in the old vBulletin. Now we still have the old database. We are just hooked up to a new one. I am waiting for the host to rewrite the old damaged database with the backup. Then I will simply reconnect the new forum to the old database and we should (theoretically) have all the old posts.

In a certain sense, this is a good thing. We needed to upgrade to the new board anyway (more features and better security). And yes, no one lost more posts than I did! I must have transcribed an encyclopedia onto this forum. Oh well, it should all still be there. Its just a matter of putting it all back together and integrating it with the new board. I managed to smash the SOB before he could knock out most of the posts anyway (notwithstanding the host's backups).

It might also be a good idea to archive all the old material and start from scratch under the new setup. The new board has an archive feature I notice.
