ROFL They remind me of "Erkan & Stefan" - both Germans however - who parodize young urban Turks in Germany. Comedy, not really the most demanding form of entertainment, but their imitation of the Turko-German slang is nevertheless absolutely hilarious.

This gets back to an earlier question I had raised. How much difference is there really between the hoi polloi of Europe and the hoi polloi of the United States? There appears to be a large market for trashy US culture in Europe and the former Soviet bloc.

I do believe there is a "democracy effect." In a democracy, the lowest common denominator is held up as the ideal. People don't perceive any need to emulate the values of the elite. In fact, to be anti-elite becomes a virtue since, in the upside down world of democracy, what is popular is what is right.

In an elitist state, the elite (however they are composed) are held up as an ideal to strive for. This does not mean there will not be tacky pop culture in a fascist or elitist state. It just isn't handed a megaphone.

America isn't a true Democracy. It's a Plutocracy ruled by the Special Interests. If it was a real Democracy they wouldn't need the Electoral vote, a popular vote would do. The only place that had a real Democracy was Ancient Greece.

Do you really consider 8-10% of the population voting to be "true" democracy?
