This is one of the weaknesses of having pure monogamy as an ideal. It leads men to marry women based purely upon sexual attraction, rather than what works for the long term. Eventually, the attraction wears off and the plaything gets tossed out. Therefore monogamy easily becomes serial monogamy. A lot of guys end up going through wives like underwear.

I think it would work better if more guys chose wives based upon long-term compatibility. What makes a good wife and mother is quite different from what makes a good whore. To satisfy the need for sexual variety, I think married men should be allowed to keep young mistresses on the side. If the wife gets jealous, she can beat 'em up. (Personally, I look forward to that.
