View Full Version : what is the safest cup to drink from?

wooden
plastic
ceramic
glass
or what?
Why do I ask this? Because bacteria 'stick' to certain materials better than others (which is why I plastic, I have been told, is not as safe as the others).
which of these types is the easiest to clean?
can wooden cups be easy to clean, are they safe?
I want either wooden or plastic, because they are less likely to break, but bacteria easily stick to plastic cups. Do they stick just as easily to wooden cups? are wooden cups as safe as ceramic and glass ones?

Too late ixabert, the germs are everywhere. Tiny germs, crawling all over ixabert and his cups.

Perhaps you could get some stainless steel cups somewhere. :)

but they could chip your teeth and would become very hot if you were drinking hot liquids, say bioled water (tea). also evens stainless steel corrodes eventually.

LOL! And don't forget that soap residue. Rinse, then rinse, rinse, and rinse again.

Reminds me of that episode of the Simpson were Mr Burns turns into a Howard Hughes parody, Mr Burns "sees" the germs talking to him and they tell him "freemasons run the country".
Ix has been drinking from lead cups too often.

Who gives a ****? Germs are everywhere, trying to get rid of too many of them just weakens your immune system.

They're all safe enough. Stop being such a GD pussy.

I drink from a goblet made of the melted down jewelry from people who defaulted on their medical bills.
A young street urchin we allow to live under the porch cleans and polishes it every day.

Ixabert, your urine is much cleaner than your saliva. Piss in your own mouth, gargle, and shut the hell up.
This is what your spit looks like under a microscope:

"There are approximately 100 million bacteria per ml of saliva and 500 different species present." (http://www.medicdirect.co.uk/DentalHealth/default.ihtml?step=4&pid=1049)

Actually most of those bacteria are not harmful; many are beneficial to man, esp. those in saliva.
I am not that worried about germs. I just want three efficient cups that will last a long time, made of easy to clean material. Thus it cannot be glass, nor ceramic, since they break easily. It also cannot be wood or plastic, since bacteria stick easily to those materials. I would say, then, a cup with a plastic exterior and a ceramic interior would be good. Or one with a metal exterior, a ceramic interior, a plastic rim, and a rubber handle - that too would be good. Although it might get hot if I pour hot liquids into it.

Have you thought about Melmac? I'm still using the Melmac mug my dad brought around Europe in the late 60's.

Why three?

Why three?
Because I already have five other cups.

Do you find these five cups you already have to be sufficient for your cup needs?

no, because they do not have a ceramic interior.

How about a pre-Columbian stone vessel from Peru?

Hardened glass tumblers maybe...?
The kind that doesn't break when dropped, atleast not easily.

After his breakfast cup, brunch cup, lunch cup, mid afternoon snack cup, and dinner cup, Ixabert would still need a toothpaste rinsing cup, bedtime cup, and midnight snack cup. :)

Then he points a gun at Smithers and tells him to hop in to the Spruce Goose.
